England, Wales and Scotland together form Great Britain the largest, hence 'greatest' (in size) of the islands known as the British Isles. The United Kingdom (UK) is made up of Great Britain (GB) plus Northern Ireland whilst the British Isles includes the UK and the  Republic of Ireland (Eire).

The official mapping agency of Britain is known as the Ordnance Survey, often simply referred to as the OS. Maps produced by the OS are considered to be amongst the best, if not the best, in the world. Northern Ireland and The Republic of Ireland have their own Ordnance Survey.
